JFK’s Assassination Shut Down Filming

The show was filmed on Kauai, the Hawaiian Island, the pilot for the new series was shot over a one week period in November 1963. The last day of filming took place in Honolulu Harbour showing the S.S Minnow embarking on its three-hour, devastating journey. On November 22nd, the news broke of JFK’s assassination which meant all military bases including the harbour had to be shut down out of respect for 48 hours. Filming was set back a week.
