Not only does 2026 mark a clean slate for people hoping to fulfill their New Year’s resolutions, but it also marks the start of new music releases. As many artists gear up to tease or release new music, fans worldwide begin to build excitement across various social media platforms for these upcoming releases.

The anticipation leading up to the release of music is probably the hardest part for any music fan. The wait is the hardest part, especially for fans of artists who haven’t been active for a while (Harry Styles, I’m talking about you!). But nothing can quite beat the feeling of hitting play on the first track of a new record. The excitement, curiosity, shock, and maybe even dread are all part of the music experience. Although 2025 saw a bit of a music drought, hopefully our thirst will be quenched with the return of Charlie XCX, Harry Styles, Bruno Mars, and so many more.

Perhaps the biggest question is what music trend or album will dominate and define 2026. 2024 saw the rise of British pop star Charli xcx with her sleazy yet honest album, brat. The record sparked the trend of brat summer, which was defined by neon-green colors, messy and authentic attitudes, and embracing a “party girl” vibe. Meanwhile, 2025 embraced the rise of K-Pop after the release of K-Pop Demon Hunters. The demon-fighting trio absolutely dominated social media platforms and the charts, with the movie soundtrack hitting number 1 on the Billboard 200.

So, what’s in for 2026? Will Harry Styles dominate this summer as he did in 2022? Will Beyoncé drop Act III of her album trilogy? We’ll have to see what this year has in store for music fans.

Most anticipated releases of 2026

Nothing’s About to Happen to Me – Mitski

After contemplating retirement, Mitski released her seventh studio album, The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We, back in 2023. The record took a more stripped-back approach from her previous albums, making the music feel intimate in its instrumentals and lyricism. “My Love Mine All Mine” became a hit off the record, bolstering over 1 billion streams on Spotify. However, after a sold-out tour and concert film, the singer decided to take a step out of the limelight.

After cryptically teasing fans with phone numbers and strange videos, Mitski announced that her new album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, will be released on February 27. Along with this announcement, the singer released her first single, “Where’s My Phone?” off the record. Leaving behind the stripped-down tone of acoustics, the track returns to Mitski’s signature indie-rock sound. It seems for this album, the singer abandons the comfort of Americana and folk sounds, returning to her bolder and assertive musical roots.

Wuthering Heights – Charli xcx

After achieving unexpected success with her brat, Charli xcx decided to relish in the spotlight. The British pop singer released a remix album, which features collaborations with Addison Rae, Lorde, and Billie Eilish, won three Grammys at the 67th Grammy Awards, and just released her mockumentary, The Moment.

Following the announcement that a movie adaptation of Wuthering Heights would be released this year, director Emerald Fennell announced that Charli xcx would be creating the soundtrack and original songs for the film. The singer released the first single, “House,” back in November of 2025. The music for the film is a stark departure from the singer’s other work, as she embraces the gothic and tragic romance central to the film. Wuthering Heights is set to release on February 13, alongside the film.

The Mountain – Gorillaz

Among the artists on this list, Gorillaz is probably the most unique of the bunch. The virtual band, created by Damon Albarn of Blur and Jamie Hewlett, has been creating music for over 20 years, blending hip hop, electronic, and alternative rock sounds. Their last album, Cracker Island, featured prominent artists like Stevie Nicks and Tame Impala on almost every track.

Last November, the band announced their next album, The Mountain, would be released on February 27. Since the announcement, the group has released six tracks off the album. “The Happy Dictator” offers a first taste of the album’s sound and presents a unique listening experience, as all Gorillaz’s songs do, with trippy vocals and political and social lyricism.

ARIRANG – BTS

It’s been over three years since BTS released a full album. Since then, various group members have released various solo projects while completing their military service. Since the group’s hiatus, K-pop has experienced exponential growth with the rise of groups like NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM.

Finally, the group announced that they would release their fifth studio album, ARIRANG, on March 20. They also announced a tour to accompany the album, which generated an overwhelming response from fans worldwide. Due to unprecedented demand, they have already added extra dates at several stops on their tour.

Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally – Harry Styles

It’s no surprise to say that Harry Styles is undoubtedly one of the biggest male pop stars of our generation. The singer solidified his spot in the limelight with his hit single “As It Was” off his third studio album, Harry’s House. 2022-2023 was the British singer’s golden year as he won 2 Grammys at the 65th Grammy Awards, including album of the year. His tour, “Love on Tour,” was completely sold out, and he performed at Madison Square Garden for a whopping total of 15 nights!

For almost three years, the singer quietly retreated into private life, with occasional Instagram posts and sightings online. However, on January 15, Styles announced that his new album would be Kiss All The Time. Disco would occasionally release on March 6. The singer released the first single, “Aperture,” on January 23 and had listening parties across the globe. Although some fans who were able to listen to the song early stated the song reminded them of Charli xcx or club music, it’s more accurate to say that the song sounds inspired by artists such as LCD Soundsystem. This single is a pleasant departure from his other work and creates an interesting turn in the singer’s musical journey.
