Whether you’re spending your time by the lakeside, camping, or swimming in the ocean, it is officially summertime! No matter how you feel about the summer season or how far you will be traveling for your festivities, a playlist is essential. This Summer 2026 Playlist is your perfect road trip soundtrack. From KATSEYE and BTS to Sublime, this playlist has got you covered.

I recently went on my first big road trip without a chaperone, and the first thing I did when I got invited was pick out my favorite CDs and start making a playlist. I included it all- road trip classics, current favorites, and new releases I needed to catch up on- resulting in an incomprehensible mess.

Luckily, you can always try again. This playlist features some of the most popular and recent releases from 2026. From Olivia Rodrigo to Jack White, there is something for every vibe, feeling, and thought that occurs when trapped in the car for hours.

ICONIC BY MISTAKE – Le Sserafim, ILLIT, KATSEYE

The surprise collaboration between the two K-pop groups Le Sserafim and ILLIT and the Los Angeles-based girl group KATSEYE was officially released on June 12, 2026. Moka from ILLIT and Manon from KATSEYE were not featured on the track as they have been on hiatus.

All three groups have faced heavy criticism throughout their careers, especially online. These critiques are the focus of the lyrics, and fans noticed immediately.

I’m just tryna stay me, dance a little crazy

But now I am iconic from how much you fuckin’ hate me

Genius

Sung by Daniela from KATSEYE, who has been condemned for her dancing, even being accused of over-dancing to outshine her fellow members.

Directed by Cody Critcheloe, the music video was released on March 10, 2026. It was published on the official Hybe YouTube channel, the entertainment company under which all three girl groups are managed.

Visually, the music video is very compelling. It has gothic elements such as tombstones, dead roses, kissing stone carvings, and digging up graves. Psychedelic vibes take over during a tooth-pulling dentist scene.

The girls stay true to their hyperpop roots, though. The outfits and dancing are very indicative of the genre.

The music video ends with a scene of the girls sharing s’mores in a corn field that has been set on fire.

The theme for this summer is ICONIC, and these girls are here to prove it. The summer is freeing, and we should be embracing that. Short-shorts, bikinis, walking barefoot on the beach: all freeing, all iconic. There is nothing better than feeling confident while hanging out with the girls, and I feel this song is a total reflection of that.

Until The Sun Explodes – Sublime

Sublime and summertime go together hand in hand. They’re on the radio, playing in gift shops, and on every summer playlist. It would be sacrilegious not to include them on this playlist.

It has been 30 years since Sublime released any new music. After former frontman Bradley James Nowell passed away in 1996, the band reunited with Bradley’s son, Jakob, filling in the role.

Jakob flawlessly replicates his father’s vocal timbre and mannerisms to a T. He has claimed that the new album is a tribute to the band and all his father has done.

The band has been known for its catchy, upbeat reggae-inspired rock, often used as party songs. Partying is definitely a common theme of their music; however, the lyrics are often a reflection of how partying affects one’s life, especially under the influence of drugs.

“Until The Sun Explodes”, the title track for their 2026 album release, completely captures that traditional Sublime feel. From the first verse, there is a nostalgic atmosphere not only in the musicality but also in the storytelling.

While I was thinkin’ ’bout you at your favorite bar
They were playing old pornos on the VCR

Why should I feel so close to you
When you are so far?

Genius

The nostalgia theme continues in the music video. The most prominent example is the way the footage is edited. There are a lot of effects making it look as though it was filmed on an old camera. Additionally, there are sun flares and fisheye lenses used, adding to the vintage aesthetic.

Throughout the music video, we see Jakob looking through old photo albums. A lot of these pictures focus on the original Sublime lineup with Bradley.

Ultimately, it is the reggae-esque instrumentation in combination with the visuals that make this track perfect for summer.

honeybee – Olivia Rodrigo

you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love by Olivia Rodrigo was released on June 12, 2026. “honeybee” is track number three on the album (and is my personal favorite). It features beautiful writing by Olivia and production by David Nigro.

Admittedly, I am a total sucker for a soft, bittersweet confession. Olivia’s writing, along with David’s production, impeccably captures the wistful nature.

I love this song so much because I deeply connect with the feelings Olivia is expressing here. She is scared to lose the one she loves because right now things are going great. But sometimes great things end, and it is terrifying to think about, especially when you care so much.

Baby boy, honeybee

God, I love the way you look at me

Genius

But even when I’m quiet

I love you, baby, I promise

Genius

These are the reflections of the good, the teeth-numbing sweetness.

It’s too hard to describe this

In a way that feels honest

Genius

And I hope I never see what your face look like going

A face I swear I could spend my whole life knowing

Genius

These are the reflections of fear, the bitter acid.

Even though it is a melancholy song, I think it is very cute and very sweet. Bonus points if you have a summer fling to dedicate it to!

Middle of Nowhere – Kacey Musgraves

I discovered this song through a class assignment. The assignment was to transcribe the song by ear. While listening to this song a million times over, I decided I actually really liked it.

Personally, I was attracted to the lyrics and the story of self-solitude. I have always been an introvert and grew up in *technically* the country. I may not have lived the traditional country lifestyle, but close enough. This song reminds me why I am grateful to live in a more “rural” area.

Out there on the edge of the world, way past common sense

Past the Dairy Queen, the county line, where there ain’t any fences

Genius

This song was included in my personal road trip playlist. Driving through hundreds of fields and clusters of mountains is what this song was built for. The longer we were on the road, the less I wanted to go home. It was so freeing to wake up in the middle of the woods, choose a direction and drive, and only check my phone at the end of the day. The chorus Kacey wrote for this song absolutely captures this feeling.

Gonna find my own peace, I wanna be

Somewhere in the middle of nowhere
I think maybe I’ll just stay there
Don’t tell me you miss me, I don’t care
I’m somewhere in the middle of nowhere

Genius

There is a shift in the “groove” of the song once the chorus comes in. That shift to a waltz feel is what makes this song feel so special to me. It is a very simple musical decision, but combined with the confession in the chorus, it feels significant. (Shoutout to my professor for making me do my homework).

There is one verse that really sold it for me, though:

No servicе on the phone and I’m alone, but it honеstly feels good

And if you tried to call, I wouldn’t call you back even if I could

Genius

Selfishly, I relate to these lyrics a lot. I am notoriously bad at responding to calls and texts; just ask anyone who knows me. If I could throw away my phone, I would, but I’m too attached to it to do so. Maybe this will be the summer I finally get off my phone (and my butt) and fully enjoy life.

SWIM – BTS

South Korean boy band BTS released the lead single for their sixth studio album, “SWIM,” on March 20, 2026. It quickly rose to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100. In January of the same year, their comeback was announced after finishing their military service. The lyrics were written to represent the feelings the members had before and after the military.

This is how it all begins
Swim, swim
I just wanna dive, I just wanna dive

Genius

It’s a feeling many can resonate with. Moving along with whatever is thrown at you, literally swimming forward.

Filmed in Lisbon, the accompanying music video features the group working aboard a sail ship. This could be another reference to the group’s military service. Either way, boats and swimming are great summer activities.

There is a lot of stuff on this playlist that I wouldn’t necessarily gravitate to, but they’re sure to be fun summer anthems for 2026.
