Facial recognition technology may be invasive, but it will help you get drunk faster.

Recently, technology has seemed to be extraordianarily helpful or down right creepy. But more often than not as time passes, the overlap of this ven diagram is getting bigger and bigger. Facial recognition software is at the top of that list.

A Portland, Oregon conveinence store recently started using it for identifying former shoplifters, a hotel utilized to greet incoming guests, and last but not least–law enforcement officers are using it to catch criminals (or what the algorithm determines a criminal is).

So it’s no surprise that a bar in London is now taking the cue. The establishment, 5CC Harrild & Sons Cocktail Bar, is now using the software to determine the order of the customers in the bar–whoever has been waiting the longest will be served next. The bar has said it has already cut down on wait times.

The company behind the software, DataSparQ, said they have plans to roll out nationwide and expanding to musical festivals within the year.

While I’m not sure several different companies having my face in their system, I suppose the ability to get drunk faster while AI takes over is a tradeoff I am okay with.
