In the past few days, social media platforms have been inundated with memes depicting American politician, Bernie Sanders, at the inauguration for US President, Joe Biden, and Vice President, Kamala Harris. Sanders choice to style himself in a jacket and mittens, became meme-worthy, making him and his outfit a viral topic .

Such a significant occasion, calls for careful fashion choices. While the outfits of Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga and many others made headlines, it was Sander’s style of mittens, and a heavy-duty winter jacket that stole the limelight.

Although his outfit may now be infamous for being a fashion faux-pas, it definitely was a practical choice considering the temperatures in Washington, D.C. being around zero degrees. Sanders himself admitted in an interview with Seth Myers: ‘I was just sitting there trying to keep warm!’

Nevertheless, thousands of people sought an opportunity to remove Sander, his mittens and jacket, from the inauguration and place him in some bizarre and hilarious situations.

While Sanders’ mittens were made into many celebrated memes, they were especially successful for the school teacher who made them. The Vermont Senator revealed to Myers that the teacher has been ‘overwhelmed’ with attention since the mittens went viral.
