Gone are the days of traditional flavours like strawberry and vanilla… instead, we’re all craving new tastes that we haven’t tried yet, and this dessert parlour certainly has something for everyone!
Nugelato, a Northern Irish-based chain, specialises in offering its customers “the ultimate indulgent gelato and chocolate experience” within its stores, but their newest amalgamation of flavours is dividing the internet.
To coincide with the release of Ireland’s very own crisp manufacturer, Tayto, releasing a chocolate bar with cheese and onion flavoured crisp pieces inside, the self-proclaimed ‘Ice Cream Boutique’ made their very own crisp inspired chocolate. Cheese and onion are not your typical go-to flavours for a frozen treat, especially when there are actual crisps being used as a topping, but some social media users really seem to love it!
One commenter even suggested making a salt and vinegar variation, but is that taking it too far? For many years, people have admired the combination of sweet and salty foods, with McDonald’s even choosing to launch an Oreo and Spam burger in China! So maybe there is a market for this type of dish after all. The only question is: is it still classed as a dessert?
If you don’t quite fancy the above option, there are, of course, several other flavours to choose from, including their current Easter range. Their famous ‘Nuggy Pots’ can be customisable to include scoops of whatever ice creams your heart desires, or you can choose to opt for a set mixture from their menu, with a creme egg pot now being a possibility.
Their current range includes the likes of Kinder Bueno and strawberry cheesecake gelato as well as the most unique range of sauces and toppings to complement and complete your feast. Or, if you fancy something more filling than a few scoops of ice cream, you can take advantage of the crepes and waffles they also make available.
Perhaps cheese and onion crisp flavoured gelato isn’t the one for you, but by mixing and matching your favourite toppings with your preferred ice cream underneath, you are sure to have your dream food combination.
