This comes after the European Parliament pledged to ban all plastic cutlery and plates by 2021.
With global warming becoming one of the international community’s biggest concerns in the past few years, a lot of focus has been placed on the harmful effect which plastic pollution has on the environment and in turn the climate.
With this, companies have sprung up everywhere offering long-lasting and less harmful alternatives to single use plastics.
So things like bamboo toothbrushes, stainless steel water bottles, mesh produce bags and bamboo cutlery have all become pretty commonplace on a lot of our social media timelines.(These are all things I would 100% recommend buying by the way).
The latest in the wonderful world of alternatives-to-plastic comes from the Polish company Biotrem.
Founded by Jerzy Wysock, the company has been producing edible plates in an effort to reduce the negative effects of disposable plastic.
These edible plates are made from wheat bran. Alongside being edible, the plates are also biodegradable.
Check out this video which talks a little more about the product:
The company has actually been producing these plates for fifteen years already, meaning they were well ahead of the game when it comes to having an awareness of our impact on the globe.
They already export the products to a large number of countries, and hopes to be able to extend wheat bran’s use to cover things like takeaway cartons.
This honestly sounds awesome, and is such a good step in the right direction. It’s honestly refreshing to see a company taking initiative and doing their bit to save the planet.
