Hazbin Hotel, the wildly popular indie animation show, has finally released its second season. In this article, I’ll be covering new main cast introductions, and the characters who I think underwent the most important changes. There will be some spoilers ahead for certain plot points, and changes to some characters visual designs. That said, let’s get down to business!
Vox / Vincent Whitman
First on our list is the Overlord and leader of the V’s, Vox. He serves as the primary antagonist for this season, and is the character whose background saw the most expansion. Here we get a good look at his original appearance from back when he was still ‘friends’ with Alastor.

We find out how he and Alastor had their falling out, as well as what he looked like as a human. He and our favourite deer demon really do have a lot in common. They were both serial killers with a lust for the media spotlight. The only difference being their medium, and that Vox went full cult leader before his death!

Finally, let’s have a look at Vox’s final boss form as he goes toe to toe with Alastor.

This final battle is definitely the highlight of this season’s animation work, which is much improved from the first season.
Rosie
Now, let’s take a look at the one, the only: Rosie! The ruler of cannibal town, and the owner of Alastor’s soul! She is far more powerful and conniving than we ever assumed, and none of the rest of the main cast know that she’s the true mastermind behind Alastor’s involvement with the hotel.

In this season, we get a look at the mind games Rosie plays with Alastor, via two musical numbers. Are they really as friendly as they, act, and will Rosie be able to keep the upper hand over a scheming Alastor who will do anything to break his deal with her?

I can’t wait to see how her relationship with Alastor and the mystery of her motives evolve in Season 3!
(Baxter)
Next on our list, the first of our new cast members! Baxter! Longtime fans of the show will know that Baxter was originally going to be part of the main cast of Season 1, only to be replaced with Sir Pentious, who was meant to be a one-off character. And practically the first thing we learn about him is that he is he and Pentious are former partners in crime!

Like Pentious, Baxter is a brilliant inventor with a quirky awkward personality. He fills the gap Pentious left in the main cast at the hotel, and becomes the newest focus, alongside Angel Dust and Cherry Bomb, of Charlie’s desire to reform the sinners.

Watching him develop his own dynamic with each of the cast, and undergo an arc with regard to his feelings about his falling out with Pentious was very rewarding to watch, as was the way the two scientists worked together in the final to save the main cast.
Abel
Meet Abel, the official, if unwilling, successor to Adam and his bloody legacy. Abel could not be a more different person from his father if he tried. He’s passive, people-pleasing, and anxious to a fault.

But perhaps most importantly, it has fallen to him to keep a spiraling Lute under control, a task he is ill-suited for. Unfortunately for everyone, avoiding a violent confrontation between the exorcists and Lute with Hell is dependent on him pulling himself together long enough to keep them in check. I’m looking forward to seeing some real character growth (or regression!) from him on the 3rd Season. I can only hope I won’t be disappointed.
Lucifer Morningstar
Now onto the King of Hell himself, Lucifer, in the infernal flesh! In this season, we get a look at just how much power Lucifer has, and just how many restrictions heaven has placed on his ability to use it. He might be the strongest in Hell, but he’s also one of the most vulnerable.

And Charlie (and everyone else) treating him like crap for the whole season isn’t doing him any favours as well. If they cared a little more, it would have been so much harder for Vox to trick and capture him. Vox’s exploitation of Lucifer’s vulnerability almost gets everyone killed in the final, after all.

The Speaker of God
Next up is our third prominent new cast member, the Speaker of God. A mysterious character introduced as an angel of immense power, a rank above Sera, and the highest heavenly we’ve met so far. It’s because of her that we get to hear about Sir Pentious’ background, and see his human design!

The Speaker of God is also the first angel we’ve met that acts how we imagine an angel should. She appears to be a moral paragon of sorts to the heaven-based cast. We have yet to get an official name for her character, but some fans have theorized that she is meant to be the Hazbin world’s Metatron.
Alastor
And last but certainly not least is Alastor. Season 2 has been pivotal for our favourite deer demon. Thanks to it, we have a clear background for how Alastor became the infamous Radio Demon, and how he ended up selling his soul to Rosie. We even got a great look at his human design.

But Alastor is never to be underestimated, and he would never resign himself to being someone else’s lacky. By the end of the season, Alastor has managed to end not one but three deals in his favour, and ‘renegotiate’ his contract with Rosie, in a manner of speaking.

He plays the whole cast like a fiddle and comes out on top in the end, setting him up to be a more threatening potential antagonist than ever in future seasons. Not that any of this should come as a surprise to those of you familiar with his character. After all, mystery aside, we’ve known how Alastor plays his hand from when he was first introduced.
Final Thoughts
Now, it’s important to note that these seven are not the only characters who see a notable shift in their dynamics or situations. Angel Dust and Sir Pentious in particular undergo some important changes in this season, and Vaggi also has her own little arc. But I can’t be spoiling everything for you, so you’ll have to watch the show or stalk the fan pages to get the full scoop!
