“They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but that picture is worth a thousand breaches!”
Chris Fallows, Shark Expert, Air Jaws Ultimate Breach
Thanks to Discovery Channel, this week’s Shark Week (and the competition that followed – Air Jaws: Ultimate Breach) we as the viewers have had the pleasure and horror of watching natural history being made.
Three of the world’s known shark experts came together this week on Seal Island off the coast of South Africa, to document and see which type of technology would be able to best capture the breaching of a Great White Shark.
With some teams opting for drone technology and night photography, shark expert Chris Fallows stuck to the basics with his tow camera. Thanks to his experienced film decision, Fallows had the images that caught every viewer’s attention.
This Great White produced the most perfect image that pushed Fallows to first place in the breach competition. Launching itself almost 15 feet in the air was unbelievable to all the viewers watching at home and even Fallows himself.
“This has to be the ultimate air jaws breach”

Shark Week Director, Jeff Kurr emphasized the repercussions of climate change and what it has meant for the shark species, “More than any other Air Jaws we’ve done, this one has a really strong conservation message: We have to do something to protect these great white sharks because they are on the brink of annihilation.”
Shark week continues until August 16th on Discovery Channel.
