In February 2021, a cruise ship is set to make a huge splash with the world’s first roller coaster at sea.
The Carnival Cruise Line is debuting the Mardi Gras ship, complete with an Ultimate Playground, which features the BOLT roller coaster. The New Orleans-themed cruise also boasts Emeril’s Bistro 1396 by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, Family Feud Live for all passengers, and new themed bars. The ship also introduces Zones, six different areas for food, drinks, and fun.
The motorcycle-speed BOLT coaster is unique because of riders’ ability to control how fast they go. Thrill-seekers and sightseers are guaranteed satisfaction with a gas pedal and 360-degree ocean views. The ride’s 800-foot track lets users travel up to 40 mph at 187 feet above sea.

Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said:
Whether guests want to get an adrenaline rush or take it slow and enjoy the breathtaking views, BOLT will have it all.
Combining the most talented designers, technicians and attractions professionals in the industry, we’ve taken FUN to a whole new level with this amazing onboard experience that is also a true game changer in the industry.
The website reads, “Forget other coasters because this all-electric thrill ride puts you in the driver’s seat. That means you actually get to control how fast you go, so hit the gas and try for the fastest time, go for the biggest thrill – plus some amazing 360° ocean views!”
“And for the folks who choose to chill: go light on the pedal, and this just might be the coaster for you!”
There’s also a water park that has three ‘heart-racing slides’, including Blue Lightning that offers 312ft of ‘high speed twists and turns’.
Elsewhere in the Ultimate Playground there’s a full-size basketball course, an eight-hole mini-golf course, a rope course, and a track for exercising on.”
The Mardi Gras sets off from Port Canaveral, Florida on February 6 next year.
