Whether you’re in heat, using the litterbox, or having a little too much fun playing in the sheets, keeping your kitty healthy is crucial. It’s time to trade your uncomfortable hissing for some much needed purring.
If you’re looking to keep your most delicate parts purring with comfort and confidence, look no further. Vaginal health isn’t just about shedding your fur before a hookup. It’s a full-time commitment to keeping your kitty happy, hydrated, and hiss-free.
Here are a few purr-fect daily habits that can guarantee to make play-time not only exciting, but also healthy.
Tip #1: Pounce on the litter box directly after play!

Although I’m a massive advocate for aftercare and words of affirmation after sex, I have to emphasize the importance of using the bathroom before cuddling and whatnot.
The primary reason it’s so necessary is that it prevents UTIs or urinary tract infections. UTIs are typically caused by an influx of bacteria that isn’t safe for the urethra. They can be incredibly uncomfortable, and please take it from me — they’re a nightmare.
During playtime, especially with males and females, the transaction can transfer unsafe bacteria that can cause this infection to occur. Although it’s not so easy to get UTIs if you have a penis, cleaning practices can make it much more pleasurable for your partner.
This is because the male and female anatomies have different purposes for each part of their organs.
For instance, the vulva contains a separate hole for both peeing and reproduction. However, the penises’ urethra emits both semen and pee from the same hole. This allows bacteria from their urine to interact with the bacteria inside the vaginal canal.
Some may say this should not be considered a form of aftercare, but I believe kitty care is a key component of aftercare.
Tip #2: Feeding the feline.

I must admit that even though I have an active kitty, I’m not the most actively fit feline. However, diet and physical activity have proven to play a leading role in determining your vaginal health.
According to the National Library of Medicine, we have a normal vaginal pH of 3.8 to 4.2.
But it can range depending on your age and the menstrual stage you are in.
Your beautifully acidic forest is not only in charge of keeping the bacteria level in check, but it’s incredibly sensitive to changes in environments and people. However, a healthy and balanced diet can help produce stronger discharge to help fight off bad bacteria.
Through research, many have found that certain vitamins and minerals help your body balance the pH levels.
Probiotic-Rich Foods
Probiotics are made up of tiny microbes that provide health benefits when you consume them in the right amounts. Probiotics support vaginal health by helping maintain a balanced microbiome dominated by Lactobacillus bacteria, which naturally keep the vaginal environment slightly acidic.
Some examples:
- Kimchi
- Pickles
- Yogurts with live cultures
- Soy Products
Antioxidants
Antioxidants support your kitty by reducing inflammation and protecting cells from oxidative stress, which can be triggered by hormones, infections, or everyday lifestyle factors.
Some examples: Berries, leafy greens and nuts
My favorite way to incorporate antioxidants into my daily routine is by starting every day with blueberries, vanilla yogurt, and walnuts or sliced almonds.
High-Fiber Foods
Similarly to probiotics, they help lactobacillus bacteria, which can help prevent yeast infections and UTIs.
Some examples:
- Cooked artichoke
- Most beans
- Legumes
- nuts & seeds
Vitamin A Rich Foods
Vitamin A is incredibly important for the health of the mucous membranes, which is the soft tissue that lines the vaginal canal. It not only helps fight against bad bacteria, but it also helps promote natural lubrication and a moist environment.
Some examples:
- Sweet potatoes
- Butternut squash
- Liver
- Pineapple
- Eggs
There are many more nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that have proved to be incredibly beneficial to vaginal health, but I would count these to be the most effective.
Tip #3: Don’t get too caught up in the moment!

Unless you’re looking to add a few little kittens to the mix, unprotected intercourse is not the safest option.
Semen can throw off your vagina’s natural pH, giving bad bacteria a chance to crash the party like unruly alley cats. It can also increase the risk of STIs and unplanned pregnancy — two things no feline-loving queen wants prowling around her litter. Keeping things protected helps your kitty stay balanced, comfortable, and purr-fectly healthy.
As someone who has experienced what it’s like to get “caught in the moment”, plan-B and on-and-off UTIs can’t be sustainable. I can’t take kittens in this condo.
Tip #4: Products to make your kitty purr!
As a feline who has had her fair share of yeast infections, UTIs, and bacterial vaginosis, I’ve come out the other side with a handful of products that have prevented more litter box horrors.

This cleanser has been my go-to product for balancing my pH level and preventing any unwanted infections. They include aloe vera to soothe the skin, and calendula flower extract. This extract contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
Every time you have sex or take a shower, it’s important to first water down your vulva then lather it in the cleanser before rinsing it again.
Boric Acid Foam Wash
The Boric Acid Foam Wash is an alternative product that performs the same functions as the pH Balanced Cleanser.
Use it in the same way as the other cleanser. If you’re confused at all, think of it as a facial cleanser for your vulva.
I especially love this product, because it is an all feline-founded company that emphasizes in producing gentle products for your delicate areas.

If you’ve been struggling to find a product to quickly treat your yeast infection, then you’re in luck! This Amazon essential, acts fast and is incredibly easy to use.
Inside the packaging, it comes with the yeast infection treatment cream that you squeeze into the applicator. Then you must applicate that cream as if it was a tampon applicator.

Unless you keep your kitty’s fur long and luscious, we are all accustomed to razor burns and bumps. https://evolutionofsmooth.com/products/cashmere-skin-collection-bikini-shave-oil?srsltid=AfmBOop5Pxf_-xFuDmYpjBhxykGBsd3SO5oWybJn1duEe6so2hf7SN0q
After shaving, I typically use this oil to soften and moisturize the tender area. Because it contains a fragrance, I would highly suggest only using it on the top and side sections of your vulva.
Any Type of Male Razors
Similar to facial hair, pubic hair can be incredibly thick and difficult to shave with a normal female razor. Because of this, I’ve found that male razors have a better outcome for bumps and ingrown hairs. Male razors have been engineered to be used against delicate skin, similar to your vulva.
Tip #5: Become very comfortable with your kitty.

You may be thinking that getting up in your own business may be gross or uncomfortable. However, if you aren’t willing to get a wiff, neither will they.
It’s incredibly important to get a sense of what smells are normal and what are alarming.
When you have a UTI or yeast infection, the odor coming from your kitty can be all kinds of nasty.
But hey, it’s alright to be dirty every once and a while. It just means you were having fun and enjoying yourself.
Just keep in mind that some alley cats can carry STDs and even bacterial vaginosis, and that’s never fun.
Tip #6: Have a little cat-chat

Just like a wise kitty wouldn’t share a water bowl with a mystery feline from the back alley, you deserve to know what you’re getting into before you start swapping more than sweet nothings.
Open, honest conversations help you both stay on the same page about safety, prevent unwanted infections from sneaking in like stray tomcats, and make intimacy feel cozy and comfortable. It’s not about accusing, just making sure everyone in the cat tree is healthy, happy, and ready to cuddle.
Tip #7: Talk to your trusted OB-GYN!

Although you may be thinking that it’s an obvious point to make, but it has to be said. No matter how healthy you are and how many articles you read about vaginal health, the professionals know best.
Regular visits help catch infections early, monitor hormonal changes, and keep your vaginal ecosystem balanced so it doesn’t turn into a grumpy, hissing mess.
Taking care of your delicate parts can be invasive, tedious, and nerve-wracking. Just like living with a stray, your special kitty is not always going to be the easiest to tame. Incorporating a clean diet, communicating with your partner, and using safe products can help your vicious feline begin purring.
