Season 2 of HBO’s latest drama Westworld airs this July, and teasers from its creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are inflicting some serious yearning on super-fans.

The team behind the duo’s booming series is heavily promoting this season to come, with hopes that it will be even more stupendous than Season 1, the most watched first season of any HBO series, ever.

Nolan and Joy reveal spoilers about Season 2 during interviews with Variety and TVLine.

To Variety, Nolan states:

“It’s an ambitious season. We always knew that we wanted the stakes and the scope to increase dramatically and that means the scale of production increases as well. We have an amazingly talented group of writers, directors, and crew coming back and gearing up for what I think and what I hope will prove to be a season twice as ambitious as the first one.”

Nolan–give us something. What about Ford?  He’s dead–is that all we’ll see of him?

“I think the sacrifice he makes at the end of the first season is very real. I think there will be an opportunity to explore a little bit more of the backstory of how this park came to be…We’ll see the character’s presence will be felt in that sense in terms of filling in a few more of the gaps about the early history of this place.”

TVLine to Nolan: We see Felix and Maeve run through Samurai World or Shogun World or whatever it’s actually called — the backstage area for another park. In his note to her, we see that her daughter is in Park 1… indicating that there are multiple worlds. What can you tell me about the concept of multiple Worlds?

“Lisa and I embarked on this with a feeling that we’d need a plan…We didn’t want to do a series that was really popular and we just kept doing it and doing it and ran out of ideas.

We wanted the show to change, season on season…At the same time, the title of the series and our interest in the Western aspect of it…for us means that there’s always a connection to that place and that key of storytelling. Hopefully the ambition…and the scope of the story grows season on season, but you never quite forget where it started.”

TVLine to Joy: Will we get more on the flies next season?

“Well, the flies were always the canary in the coal mine of where the story was going, because they were the one not-programmed creature in the park. So that tiny little slap that Dolores did at the beginning of the season was a harbinger of things to come…now that the gloves are off, we’re gonna see a lot of flies — and they’re not necessarily gonna be actual flies.”
