The film is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival from January 24th-February 3rd.
So, I think everyone (or at least I hope everyone) knows who Ted Bundy is. Notorious serial killer, kidnapper and necrophile among other evil things, Bundy admitted to killing and assaulting 30 women across seven states in the 1970s. He was executed in 1989.
About as far from a nice guy as you could possibly imagine, right? So you can imagine my surprise when I found out that Zac Efron had been cast to play the killer in a new biopic.
No shade to Zac Efron, he’s hardly a bad actor, but this seems a far cry from the heartthrob’s typical roles, like that in Bad Neighbours, 17 Again and The Greatest Showman.
I’m guessing they thought it would tie in with the fact that Ted Bundy was allegedly very charismatic and handsome, which was apparently the reason he could draw victims in so well.
Efron will star alongside Lily Collins in the film.

I mean, it doesn’t look bad per say, but I can’t help feeling like Bundy is being portrayed as some sort of misunderstood, loveable rogue, rather than you know, a literal psychopath.
I can’t say I’m convinced, but we’ll have to wait and see. There’s no doubt that the film will do well, given everybody’s apparent obsession with watching anything serial killer related.
