Fans of the cult classic 1991 film The Addams family are celebrating in full force after Netflix debuted the trailer for their newest addition to the franchise, Wednesday.
Set to instill a renewed sense of evilly-good chaos, Jenna Ortega stars as titular character Wednesday Adamms in Netflix’s new series. Reprising her classic macabre parents, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman are also set to star in what has been dubbed a comedy horror show.
Dropping on Netflix’s official Youtube account three days ago, the trailer has already racked up a whopping 5.4 million views, proving that there is a wildly excited fanbase awaiting the series’ arrival on the streaming service. With no confirmed release date yet, there are still plenty of upcoming additions to keep you entertained this September.
The trailer, which introduces several new characters, including original Wednesday Addams actress Christina Ricci, sees the youngest member of the Addams clan go to Nevermore Academy in an attempt to master her powers. The overall story revolves around her experiences at high school whilst she is also expected to solve a mystery regarding her family dating back 25 years.
Directed by gothic filmmaker Tim Burton, there are sure to be examples of his signature haunting style dotted throughout the eight-episodes-long series. After being announced over a year ago, suspense is high and fans are eagerly awaiting its release, with speculation that the series will drop later this year.
The original 1991 film has remained popular, even thirty years after its release.
