Stranger Things Producer, Shawn Levy, Reveals He’s Working on a New Star Wars Film

During a conversation with SyFy Wire, Shawn Levy discussed a new Star Wars film he’s working on. “We’re pretty early in development still, but my goal is to make a Star Wars movie that is like a lot of my movies, which is a visual spectacle and a healthy dose of wish fulfillment, levity, and big heart.”

Will Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie be the one that gets made?

Currently, Shawn is working on Deadpool 3, which will resurrect Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and reunite him with Deadpool. That film is set to be released in November 2024. We don’t know when the new Star Wars movie will fit into his schedule, but Levy said that he wishes to look forward to working in that galaxy far far away.

“If you had told me when I was making Big Fat Liar that I would eventually be making Deadpool and Star Wars, I would’ve said, ‘Are you kidding me? That’s a fantasy, not a goal.’ So the fact that I’m getting to paint these big, rich canvasses, it’s thrilling to me. I don’t ever for a day take it for granted or feel complacent about it.”

In the past few years, there have been several Star Wars movies that are announced only for them to die in development hell or slide into an uncertain state, including ones from Taika Waititi, Game of Thrones showrunner Dan Weiss and David Benioff, Rian Johnson, and Patty Jenkins. Maybe Shawn Levy’s film will be the one to break through, but we will need to see more before committing.
