Squid Game Season 2 Is Officially Happening

Be prepared to binge-watch more terrifying tasks.

After it quickly became Netflix’s biggest ever series launch and the number one ‘must-see’ show in over 90 countries, there’s no surprise that another season is in the works. *Spoilers ahead*

Since its September launch, the demand for a follow-up season has been high. After all, that cliffhanger left us with lots of questions, most notably about Gi-Hun’s dramatic hair change. But luckily, it seems like we should all be getting the answers we crave after the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, confirmed another instalment of the gruesome programme.

So far, there are no details about what exactly the new season will entail or its release date, but fingers crossed it will be released sooner rather than later. In one of his many interviews regarding the show’s success, Dong-hyuk revealed that it took nearly 10 years for the show to actually be put into motion, so here’s hoping it won’t take another 10 for round 2.

What Can We Expect?

Judging by the first season’s plot, I think it’s safe to say that the losing 455 characters won’t be making a return, so it’s likely that there’ll be a whole new cast and maybe even a new game taking place. Some fans, however, have theories that some characters may have actually made it out alive.

It’s likely that this season will focus more on Gi-hun’s life after winning, despite it being revealed that he didn’t spend any of the prize money. We saw the recruitment game taking place in the train station once again, but the jury’s still out on whether we’ll see another Squid Game tournament. As we saw when detective Hwang Jun-ho broke into the archives, the games have been played yearly since 1988. But whether it’s the same 6 tasks is a whole other question.

There’s a lot of other characters that we have yet to find out more information about: the masked guards, the VIPs, other possible leaders of the games (now that we know Oh Il-nam, who was behind its invention, is dead) and just about every other living individual we saw. Actor Wi Ha-jun, Detective Hwang Jun-ho, has hinted he will return, suggesting that maybe he isn’t dead after that gunshot at the edge of the cliff.

Is there going to be a major plot twist and Gi-hun is actually one of the VIPs now? Will that hair transformation make a return after all? We sure can’t wait to find out!
