Netflix is Launching a Shuffle Play Feature Later This Year

Don’t know what you’re in the mood for? Netflix’s got you covered.

How often do we all scroll through Netflix or any streaming service trying to find something new to watch? Either we find something new or we end up watching something we’ve seen many times. There is a comfort in that but can grow stale. Well, Netflix is launching a new Shuffle Play feature later this year, to help stop the never ending scrolling.

COO and chief product officer for Netflix, Greg Peters, says the feature is being developed to “indicate to us that they just want to skip browsing entirely, click one button and we’ll pick a title for them just to instantly play” (theverge.com 1). Suggestions from friends, coworkers, or family and looking on the New and Popular tab can only take you so far; sometimes you truly need a new suggestion. Much like on music streaming services, shuffle will come up with series or movies that you might otherwise never find. Maybe even finding something before its trending!

The feature does not have an official name yet, Shuffle Play was just the testing name, but the concept is a great idea. It’s safe to say that with so many options, it can be overwhelming. Having this feature will save us time and allow for new discoveries. With COVID-19 still very present in our lives, any kind of change or new feature is welcomed to keep us entertained. The next Tiger King, Cobra Kai, or Dead To Me could be on there right now, waiting for us to discover it. Happy Netflix And Chill everyone!
