Matt Groening, creator of the famous and longest-running American TV series The Simpsons, has just confirmed the sequel to The Simpsons Movie.
Even over ten years ago, we still remember spider-pig and Homer’s escape through a sinkhole. The movie is a classic, and is completely deserving of a sequel. While some of us are disappointed by the newer episodes of the TV series–as they often lack their original flavor–the show continues on for a reason. Having just been renewed for two more seasons, The Simpsons is an American beauty that keeps us laughing and feeling good.
With the show’s incredible success, it’s safe to say that a second movie would do just fine in theaters. While not indicating when we can expect this arrival, Groening is confident in Disney’s willingness for a sequel. Appearing at the San Diego Comic-Con, he explains,
“No doubt there will be another Simpsons movie. I think Disney wants something for its money.”
He also indicates the struggles from the 2007 movie, saying,
“This is a true answer. The first Simpsons Movie almost killed us. We didn’t have a B-team waiting to do The Simpsons Movie, so the same people who wrote, animated, voiced and did the music for The Simpsons TV show also did the movie. That was in 2007. We’re almost recovered, almost.”
Hopefully the making of this sequel will not be as pain-staking as the first, as I would assume that Disney would like to churn out this movie as quick as possible. Either way, their hard work will be totally worth it. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see a Simpsons movie comeback?
