If you are anything like me, then you will always look forward to more content from Louis Theroux who has truly given us some of the best documentaries in recent times. The great news is, Louis Theroux is gearing up to return to BBC Two with a brand-new social media-focused documentary series ‘Forbidden America.’

The show is set to be released in three parts. The provoking documentary sees the filmmaker travel across the US to explore how online platforms have allowed certain dangerous, extreme or morally questionable individuals to thrive. The BBC has given a brief synopsis on it:

The first episode will focus on Theroux meeting up with young, inflammatory people from the far right who have found ways of building solidarity through their gaming and streaming services. This will include some who hit headlines after joining in on the notorious Capital Hill riots earlier this month.

In the second episode, Theroux will be speaking to feuding rappers and hip-hop artists in the southern states of America, in particular Florida. Theroux explores the men’s sometimes desperate attempts to promote their music on platforms. Louis will be meeting people at different stages of their quest to become successful and followed.

Louis remarked,

“In the rap world, young men with big dreams are caught up in feuds and high-risk behavior in the click-driven world of social media.”

The third episode will then take a glance into the porn industry and its performers. This episode will also look at the significant rise of sites such as OnlyFans which has given adult performers more freedom and control over their content.

Theroux will be chatting to an assortment of content creators as he explores the effects of people who have been accused of predatory behavior online, as well as interacting with those who have called out several alleged performers within the industry.

Louis however acknowledge that these documentaries were tough to make, as they required delicate conversations. They feature scenes and confrontations that are shocking as well as upsetting.

Speaking about the new series, Theroux said:

“The world has gone through massive changes, in particular through gaming and streaming services.”

The filmmaker aimed to expose the dangers of technology we all now inhabit, where extremist content can be seen directly in our phones, laptops, etc.

This is reflected recently in Instagram’s Kids App being paused as it had failed to make meaningful commitments to protecting kids online.

Louis himself feels a sense of pride for the subject matter handled in this documentary:

“I’m very proud of all three documentaries and hope viewers will find them as thought-provoking to watch as I did making them.”

A release date for these documentaries haven’t been announced yet. However, thinking back to  Louis’ earlier trips with the Westboro Baptist Church, or uncovering the workings of Scientology, I’m certain this series will be as equally addictive and entertaining as his past endeavors.

Theroux also recently aired a documentary Shooting Joe Exotic which looked back on the controversial figure in the wake of Netflix’s Tiger King, as well as his own interview with Exotic himself 10 years ago. For all the newest information on Tiger King Season 2: check out : This article.
