Miss America is a well-known annual competition that was first introduced in 1921 as a “bathing beauty revue”. The program takes place every year since then and is open to women from the United States between the ages of 17 and 25.
This year’s Miss America 2023 took place on December 16, 2022, at the Mohegan Sun. It was presented by Miss Florida 2012, Laura Rutledge. It was streaming on Pageants Live and the title went to Grace Stanke of Wisconsin. Stanke is a 20-year-old and is the third Miss Wisconsin to win the national title.
Last year, the show was live-streamed on Peacock from NBC and was filled with technical glitches causing fans to complain about the production value. This year, only those who hold a subscription to PageantsLive.com were able to enjoy it. This was a three-night event that began on December 12. The streaming service can be purchased at $32.99 per month.
Grace Stanke not only took the title home but also got a total of $68,900 in scholarship money, and a six-figure salary. Stanke believes that the U.S. should convert to a zero-carbon energy source and she will contribute and advocate for Clean Energy, Cleaner Future.
Last year the title went to Emma Broyles of Alaska. This year’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd runner-ups are Taryn Smith of New York, Averie Bishop of Texas, and Elizabeth Lynch of West Virginia respectively.
The show has always been criticized for promoting women objectification. As to many viewers, it is unnecessary to judge anyone on their appearance.
