Game of Thrones is one of the most lucrative television shows in history. The opening episode of the show’s final season – which many found unsatisfactory- garnered 17.4 million viewers, breaking its previous record of 16.9 million viewers during the season seven finale. But with reports saying that HBO is in the middle of developing a spin-off of the hit series, that record may soon be broken.
Apparently, the new series will be a prequel to the original version seen on HBO. According to Variety, the new show will take place 90 years prior to what was last seen on TV.
If you are a fan of television, there is a good chance you have watched Game of Thrones. And with that being said, you probably loved the series. Now that is not a given, but the award-winning show has a 85% average audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. And even though I don’t have any facts to back this up, I am sure the final season of the show brought that rating down.

Regardless, it is very exciting news that there will be a prequel to the show. Game of Thrones frequently mentioned the past, leaving an ominous mysterious air about what happened prior to the reign of the Baratheon family.
But with that being said, there are frequent mentions of Aerys Targaryen, a tyrant who became power obsessed the longer he sat on the throne. That can explain why he is frequently referred to as, “The Mad King”.
Fans of the show are already familiar with the Targaryen family. Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons were a huge attraction in getting people to watch.

But now in this reported prequel, Daenerys will not be there. Instead, the series will follow one of her older relatives, Aegon V, so I am sure there will still be a lot of fire, and a lot of dragons.
If you have not seen the series, you probably have no clue what I am talking about, and that is understandable. There is A LOT that goes on in the book turned show.
Still, it is worth getting invested in. There is a reason why the show became so popular, and I am sure the prequel will follow suit.
