On 7th September 2021, the trailer for the new Jake Gyllenhaal movie was released and hearts have been racing in response to the thriller. The premise of the movie involves a 911 call centre where a man (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a monitoring the incoming calls. The tension from the trailer arises when he answers the phone to a woman who has been abducted and is trying to call without alerting her kidnapper to her call.
The movie is titled The Guilty and is a remake of the 2018 movie starring Jakob Cedergren. The concept of the movie has also been seen before in Halle Berry’s 2013 movie, The Call, but it seems this particular thriller has caught viewers by surprise. With comments on YouTube stating ‘the trailer is insane, it’s got me hooked’ and most fans crediting its success to Jake Gyllenhaal himself, ‘I’m just here to see Jake’s face’, ‘such a good actor’, ‘this man is a legend’, ‘he’s such a good actor’.
Notably, the trailer features continuous high-tension scenes whilst it is accompanied by the sound of a ringtone, placing its viewers on edge and highlighting the promise for the movie.
The movie is set to be released on the 1st October on Netflix whilst also premiering in select cinemas as well. The cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Riley Keough, Paul Dano and Peter Sarsgaard, whilst the film has been directed by Antoine Fuqua (The Magnificent Seven (2016) and The Equalizer (2014)). The original screenplay has been adapted by Nic Pizzolatto, another fan favourite.
The movie promises to be a success among a variety of films and TV shows that are being released this autumn on streaming services. Among The Guilty, Netflix has also announced the release date of season three of the successful TV show ‘You’. More details of this can be found in the following article.
