Amazon Prime has released a new drama series called ‘Panic’ that is aimed at Young Adults. It is based on the utterly gripping thriller from bestselling author Lauren Oliver. If you are looking for your next compulsively watchable teen drama to binge-watch over the summer, then I definitely recommend you check out this series!
What is ‘Panic’ all about?
The beginning of the trailer starts with the female narrator talking about a small town… Her small town and how people often feel stuck/trapped in this world. The trailer focuses on this female and she emphasizes how she is different from everyone else.
We can see how she tries to change her life, however, she is constantly facing obstacles that prevent her from doing so. Right from the start, we know that her journey is going to be difficult.
As she continues to show us her world, we learn a secret. Her town’s secret. They have a game called ‘Panic’ and in the trailer, we see the female participate in a dangerous challenge – jumping off the peak of a cliff. This is just the starting point for the competition that the female narrator and the other players participate in to win the grand prize – $50,000.
Throughout the trailer, we see clips of the challenges that the players compete in and some players face their worst fears. The game is supposed to be kept a secret amongst the seniors, however, the police know that the game is responsible for the death of two teenagers. This shows just how dangerous the game is as it’s putting the players’ lives at risk.
Why do they risk their life playing ‘Panic’?
Most of the players use ‘Panic’ as a way to escape their hometown because they feel their life is going nowhere. The female narrator needs to play the game so she can use the prize money to pay for college so she can make a better life for herself. Not everyone has a choice, and some have to play to save themselves or someone they love.
The trailer focuses on 3 key phrases – “UNCOVER THE SECRETS”, “FACE YOUR FEARS” and finally, “… DON’T PANIC”. This sense of mystery leaves you wanting to know what is going to happen to these teenagers. What have they signed up for? Will they survive the danger? There’s only one way to know for sure…
