‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ tells the story of the famous late singer, Whitney Houston.

There have been multiple movies already made about her life. However, the difference in this movie is that in all the others, Whitney Houston was alive and well and played the role of herself in these various biopics and documentaries. Unfortunately, she prematurely passed away at the age of forty-eight. Henceforth, we had to mourn the loss of a fabulous singer and actress. In December of this year, an actress called Naomi Ackie is set to play the role of Houston. This movie sets out to be:

The joyous, emotional, heart-breaking celebration of the life and music of Whitney Houston, one of the greatest female R&B pop vocalist of all time. Tracking her journey from obscurity to musical superstardom.

Houston was born on August 9th in 1963 in Newark. She spent her teenage years singing in local churches and alongside her mother in her mother’s show. One evening in 1983, while Houston was performing, Clive Davis was in attendance, and he immediately signed the nineteen-year-old to a record. From then on, Davis was a staple in her music career, introducing her at publicity events, scouting producers and much more. Davis and the rest of her production team handled all the behind-the-scenes work. Houston used her amazing natural talents as a singer to give goosebumps to everyone all around the world.

Early Music Career

Two years after signing her on, they released her very first album Whitney Houston. This album straddled R&B and pop music and included songs like “The Greatest Love of All” and “How Will I Know”. The song “Saving All My Love for You”, which was on this album, got her first Grammy Award. This is a very prestigious award in the music industry, and she would win it twice more. In 1987, her second album, Whitney, was released. This album included four hit singles, including the hit single “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)”. This single earned her a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and an American Music Award for a Favourite Pop/Rock Single. This album was also the first album by a female artist that reached Billboard No.1.

Her Brief Film Career

After releasing a third album, she went into the realm of acting where she stayed for much of the 1990s. She played a pop diva in the 1992 film The Bodyguard where she also wrote the full soundtrack. The main song in that movie, “I Will Always Love You”, went on to sell seventeen million copies in the United States alone. It is still one of the most played songs worldwide. It is a timeless gem that will be passed down from generation to generation. In 1995, she played the main role in an American romance film, Waiting to Exhale, alongside Angela Bassett. Following that, she played Julia Biggs opposite Denzel Washington as Dudley in the 1996 The Preacher’s Wife.

After her successful film career, she went on to create three more albums, one in 1998, another in 2002 and the final one in 2009. She died in February 2012, as a result of a drug overdose, which was a result of her unhappy marriage to Bobby Brown. Her legacy lives on through her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, and through all her timeless music. She will be forever remembered as one of the greatest female singers of all time and she is sorely missed by her fanbase and the music industry.
