Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, the makers of Netflix’s German blockbuster series Dark, will shortly return with their next ambitious project, 1899. The series is scheduled to launch in September 2022 but will not be available on Netflix until late November. Here’s a rundown of everything we know about the forthcoming German series.
The new series will be a historical drama, as the title implies, and the synopsis, which you can view below, says it will have thriller/horror aspects.
The show is now under development, with a vast ensemble cast and a brief teaser. Here’s everything we know about the new series from Dark’s creators and production firm, Dark Ways.
The synopsis of 1899?
The official press release provides the following overview of the new series:
“The original series revolves around a migrant steamship heading west to leave the old continent from London to New York. The passengers, a mixed bag of European origins, are united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. When they discover another migrant ship adrift on open sea, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare.”
