The trailer for the Sonic 3 movie just came out, and everyone is talking about it! Now couldn’t be a better time to be a sonic fan, and the producers make sure you know it. They advertised the movie throughout the world by character projections on skycrapers, catching the attention of many. We join the discussion on the details of the upcoming movie and its characters.

Fans all around the world are hyped up by the Sonic 3 trailer that’s been released on YouTube. The first 2 movies in the series were well received and popular. Everyone’s curious about how the movie franchise will do Shadow’s story justice. What do you look forward to in this next movie?

Prior to the trailer debut, you may have witnessed or seen on media, that skyscrapers around the world were highlighted with the faces of Sonic characters. What ambitious advertising! It makes the creation of the Sonic movies feel historically significant in the entertainment industry.

The Actors

Returning characters Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), and Knuckles (Idris Elba) will be battling against Shadow, who’s voiced by Keanu Reeves. Obviously struggling to take down this new foe, the heroes resort to asking their nemesis Eggman (Jim Carrey) to help them. Each movie he looks more like cartoon Eggman; now he is sporting a big belly.

We will get more loveable interactions between him and his sidekick, Agent Stone(Lee Madjoub). Stone is shown shaving Eggman’s hair for him, then while changing, Eggman rips Stone’s shirt off and yells at him. These two are a dynamic duo, effortlessly pulling off the cartoon villain trope with dramatic flair.

Sonic’s adoptive father Tom Wachowski (James Warden) is supporting him as usual on his heroic adventures. However, he is then glimpsed as helpless on the floor screaming for Sonic before cutting to Shadow posing to punch. This lead some fans to speculate whether something bad happens to Tom in the movie. Will he and the city survive from the destructive chaos Shadow causes?

Shadow’s Story

Shadow fans look forward to seeing how the movies will adapt his origin story and make him a compelling anti-hero. It is sure to tug at our heartstrings. Because Shadow is associated with the Robotnik family, Eggman’s involvement will be fun to watch. At the end of the trailer, Eggman is shown meeting his grandfather, who (for some reason) is still alive. This spoiled plot twist is certainly going to tense things up in the story!

Sonic X Backstory

If you’re not familiar with the tale, Shadow was created by Eggman’s grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. He is supposed to be the “ultimate lifeform”, used in research to find a cure for Eggman’s cousin Maria. Shadow and Maria were very close friends! For some reason, the research facility was taking place in outer space, and the government knew. Not trusting that Robotnik was up to any good, they attacked, killing him and Maria, and trapping Shadow in a coma for 50 years.
In Sonic X (Netflix), when Shadow is found and reawakened, he is motivated by this trauma to seek revenge. While causing chaos around the city, he runs into Sonic and his friends and declares them to be his enemies. However, back on the space ship, Eggman unleashes a monster and prepares to use the abandoned space colony to destroy earth.

The human boy Chris helps with convincing Shadow that fighting with hatred isn’t the way. He needs to help others! Shadow is reminded of his promise to Maria, to protect Earth for all its beauty.
Finally, he teams up with Sonic to save Earth and they turn into their super forms to defeat Eggman and destroy the space ship. Afterwards, Shadow disappears and it is hinted that he died sacrificing himself. The characters appreciate his heroism and solemnly move on.

But now, it appears that the movie will change a few things about how the story plays out. Do you think Shadow be redeemed? Will he and Sonic becomes friends at the end, or will he sacrifice himself to death like in Sonic X?

The Animation

This movie is sure to be a hit when it comes out! The animation looks awesome, while the actions scenes are powerful. I do wish Shadow’s chest could’ve been more fluffy though, to add to the authenticity of varied character design.

The Future of Sonic Movies

Even with three movies strong, you know Sonic is a large franchise with many other characters essential to Sonic’s developing story. The question is: how far will the Sonic movie franchise go? Do you think it will grow like the Fast and Furious movies, with so many films?

People are already editing their own makeshift Sonic movie frames, with CGI versions of characters like Silver and Amy. Fans are thinking ahead of the potential world expansion the films can produce. Just because there are so many anime and cartoons about Sonic’s world already doesn’t mean the movies have to shy away from doing their own version!
Time will only tell what the producers at Paramount will continue to do with the franchise. I personally don’t mind if it just ends as a trilogy. What do you think?
