What’s the old saying…fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me? It’s hard to believe how some people just can’t learn from their mistakes or have it pointed out to them by someone else. But of course, history usually repeats itself so it’s not all that surprising. Billy McFarland, FYRE Festival creator and ex-con recently released from prison for that festival, has come up with a new idea on how to get back on his feet: he’s going to start another island party again! No, this writer is not kidding.
Frauding investors millions of dollars, making guests go through hell and be on their own version of Survivor, and putting his staff in the difficult position of having to try to take care of these people with what they had on the island; all of this put Billy McFarland in the spotlight for this horrid event.
McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison back in 2018 but was released in March of 2022. Trying to put the FYRE festival behind him, McFarland has done the media circulation and “apologized” for his actions across several platforms. It’s like listening to a robot apologize, not really believable.
Even after everything, McFarland is trying to get back into the entertainment game by launching a new kind of island party. PYRT is supposed to bring virtual reality technology so that companies can allow people to control what happens on the island from their own homes. So, a little virtuality, a little gaming but for a real place and real people who users can decide what happens to them from thousands of miles away. Does this sound like a good idea to anyone?
Billy McFarland Talks to Piers Morgan About His New Business Venture
Billy does not have many people on his side but one of his former investors, who wish to remain unidentified, has this to say about the latest news:
“As a previous employee who trusted Billy’s leadership in the past, new customers, investors and employees should all proceed with caution. The similarities are there around the vague mysterious promotion. PYRT appears to be an exercise in smoke and mirrors, buzzwords and empty promises of lavish trips to the Bahamas.”

What if this is open to the public? You buy a ticket to this and you can control what a real person can or cannot do on an island, all while you’re lounging at home. Who thinks this is a good idea? It’s dangerous and even riskier than the FYRE Festival. Hopefully, this gets shut down before it can even get started. He has no business trying to get away with another scheme again. Fingers crossed this goes nowhere. Billy, Mcdonald’s is always hiring! Just please nowhere near where this writer lives!
Billy McFarland’s prison days were not all roses, as to be expected after what he did.
