As the release of newest film, Avengers: Doomsday, draws near, the films in this list help prepare you to get back into action with the superhero team.

This time, the new threat the Avengers face is Doom– Doctor Doom.

Like Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four: Doom has Genius-level intelligence, which makes him the greatest foe tof the Fantastic Four and now the broader coalition of the Avengers. Originally, Marvel had an idea for another Avengers-level threat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Kang the Conqueror.

However, Marvel had to scrap plans to use the idea of using Kang the Conqueror after actor Jonathan Majors was fired following a domestic legal case.

He had previously played Kang the Conqueror in Loki Season 1, Episode 6, and was featured as Kang in Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantummania (2023).

After his firing, Marvel decided to change the title and storyline for their next Avengers movie so that it would no longer focus on Kang the Conqueror.

Instead, Marvel pivoted toward Victor von Doom, casting actor Robert Downey Jr. as the infamous Fantastic Four villain. The actor previously played Tony Stark/Iron Man for Marvel until his character’s death in Avengers: Endgame.

Before bringing Downey Jr. back, we got a chance to explore the multiverse and the infinite possibilities it opened for Marvel in its more recent releases. The idea of the multiverse was introduced in Doctor Strange (2016), and later coined into television shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Loki (2021-2023).

Later, the concept of the multiverse became prominent in movies like: Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), Spider-Man: No way Home (2021), Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness (2022), Deadpool and Wolverine and Deadpool and Wolverine (2024).

At the end of the film, Thanos attains all of the stones and wins. He wipes out half the universe, including half of all life on Earth, by snapping his fingers. In the MCU, this is referred to the Blip.
