When children get asked what they want to be when they are older, instead of saying an actor, doctor, or teacher, they say “YouTuber”. Honestly, there is no doubt when you get into the amount of money the top 10 YouTubers earn a year.
Joe Rogan, a YouTuber in his own right, reacted to 2018’s top earners. This ranged from $22 million (Ryan ToysReview) to $18 million (Jeffree Star) to $14.5 million (Logan Paul).
It seems that despite the scandals we see over YouTube, none of them ever stick to the highest earners. Logan Paul, with his suicide forest stunt, still managed to make it into the top 10. Jeffree Star and PewDiePie have also had to deal with their own scandals but secured the number 5 and 9 spots respectively.
So, in a career where it seems like if you make it to the top, you earn millions and it is seemingly hard to knock you off the top whatever you do, it is a dream. However, children should be learning that their actions have consequences and YouTube isn’t the best place for that.
Perhaps will see, with the next generation, the YouTube Career being here to stay.
Joe Rogan pointed out how even though these stars of YouTube are making so much money, many of them do want to branch out into traditional media. With the exception of Jake Paul who was on TV (Disney Channel) and now only features on his YouTube, it is the dream of a lot of people on YouTube to be actors in films and TV or singers. Despite YouTube being seen as a fulltime career, that children are aspiring to, it seems that the current generation still harks back to a time of going to Hollywood and making it big.
