James Corden’s pranking of David Beckham is delightful in how ludicrous it is. It’s ten minutes of non-stop discomfort – in the best way possible.
In a nine minute video, Corden assembles a gigantic team of people to make wildly famous and surprisingly humble soccer megastar David Beckham extremely angry and uncomfortable with a tribute statue that looks more like a gorgon than a person. In an event that’s supposed to celebrate his achievements, he cannot help but blurt out that his children will cry if they see the statue. That’s bold.
The politeness on Beckham’s part is almost horrific when you factor in the statue that he’s up against. But in the end, the high-tension reactions and laughs make Corden’s efforts admirable. Any future Corden pranks are welcomed!
