Since the dawn of the social video sharing patform, YouTubers worldwide have been known for carrying out various stunts, pranks, and bets in order to entertain their subscribers and gain more views for their videos.
While many of the stunts and pranks are successful in terms of their entertainment, at times the saftey of the idnividuals performing them are seriously put at stake. Recently it was the Mexican YouTuber and influencer Hugo Lara’s time to experience his life at risk when he took on a crazy stunt after losing a bet to his mates.
The stunt that Lara was meant to perform in a video on his shared channel Los Hermanos Lara, translating to ‘The Lara Siblings’ in English, was eating two incredibly spicy habanero peppers at once. At the beginning of the video released, Lara confessed that “I don’t eat chilli”, and suggested that he could eat one at a time instead of both at once. His friends were merciless however and insisted on the latter.
Almost directly after having chewed off the first bits of the chillies Lara began to show symptoms of discomfort, with his skin redding around his face and chest, and a cough starting to build up.
The stunt went out of control and at the end of the video a disclaimer stated that the young YouTuber was taken to the hospital.
Though Lara was struggling, the three girls didn’t notice at first, and continued to ridicule their friend for losing the challenge. Only when Lara’s coughs worsened and became accompanied by a series of retching did the others realise that somehting was severly wrong with the channels host.
Later on Yazmin Lara, Lara’s sister and co-host of the channel, announced that her brother was safe and “in a stable condition”.
It can be agreed that the stunt was putting the life of the YouTuber in danger, however, with the release of the full video, the Los Hermanos Lara channel recieved publicity like never before and an astounding 656k views; makign this their second biggest video yet.
