David Dobrik is a famous YouTuber and Vloger. He often does uncanny experiments with his friends that grant him millions of hits on social media. Recently, he broke a world record for creating the world’s largest volume of elephant toothpaste.
This is done by mixing 35% hydrogen peroxide with a selected catalyst, in Dobriks case, potassium iodide. When mixed, this reaction strips one of the oxygen molecules from the hydrogen peroxide creating oxygen gas. So yeah, that’s the science side of things.
This experiment has been conducted countless times for fun since it’s easy and eco-friendly. The waste produced is simply oxygen and water, so even though it looks like it’s oozing chemicals, it’s not.
In 2018, Science Bob attempted the world record on the Ryan and Kelly show. Last August, Mark Rober and Science Bob tried again to break the previous record. None of these experiments came even close to Dobriks results, giving him the World Tittle.
The fun part is that you can change the color of the foam with simple food dye. The downfall? The reaction stains everything it touches, so it you choose to try this yourself, be careful!
