Plastic vs Paper vs Pasta – which makes the best straw? With climate change constantly a worry in society, it’s no surprise that alternatives for restaurant crockery are being looked for.

big brands like McDonalds and J.D. Weatherspoon’s are taking national and international stances to reduce waste. However, could straws made out of pasta be the next big thing to combat non-biodegradable food ware?

One person in Italy has suggested that bars there are not only serving pasta as food. Nope, he posted a photo with a pasta straw in his drink. However, this was posted under the ‘Satire’ section of Reddit, so who knows if a legitimate bar gave them that or they brought it from home.

On the other hand, the UK has seen brands looking at other materials to make straws. Stroodles, a British brand has made straws from wheat and water that are 100% vegan and biodegradable. They also last for up to an hour. Just avoid using them to drink tea or coffee!

Founder of Stroodle, Maxim Gelmann told Metro: “While we’re a very logical and effortless solution to the plastic problem, Stroodles is not just a straw company. Our driving goal is to become a vehicle for change, and we hope that Stroodles can act as an enabler, subtly inspiring people to question how they consume everyday items.”
