Bored Dad Transforms Attic Into Walk-In Closet During Quarantine

Though Cabrera is taking a break from his contractor gig due to the pandemic, he couldn’t resist giving his attic a brand new makeover.

One bored Maryland dad has been putting all of his newfound free time, due to the stay at home orders to decrease the spread of the coronavirus, to good use.

Rodolfo Cabrera decided that while he was staying at home, he might as well take advantage of the opportunity and make some home improvements. His big project was turning the unused and messy attic of their home into a large walk-in closet for him and his wife, Idaly. They also share their home with their daughter Josdallana.

Though Cabrera is a contractor himself, the project was a bit of an undertaking. The 40 year old dad revealed that the renovation took 3 weeks to complete and totaled up to around $30,000 in costs which not included getting material, but also calling in some of his workers for additional help.

Cabrera came up with the idea to redesign the attic when he was up there one day and realized that there was plenty of open space up there which would be very useful to the couple who did not have enough space for their numerous clothes in their bedroom closet.

When it came to the reconstruction of the attic, Cabrera and his team used 2×4’s for the closet’s framing and drywall to form the walls. After that, the drywall had to be plastered so that it could be ready to get painted and have shelving and other structures attached to it.

Cabrera revealed, “The shelves were made out wood planks. I used PVC laminate for the floor, which is a wood looking plank but it’s made out of plastic and other materials. It’s also waterproof.”

Compared to the before images, Cabrera’s final result is certainly breathtaking.
