Computer Virus Tycoon, John McAfee, Arrested for Tax Evasion

Anti-virus software tycoon arrested in Spain while trying to board a plane.

It seems that one of the favorite past-times of the wealthy is not paying taxes – the President of the US is not the only big name not paying what’s due! John McAfee of McAfee Anti-Virus Software fame was arrested for tax evasion on October 5. And what’s most astounding is this is not the software tycoon’s first brush with the law.

In 2012, while McAfee was living in Belize, his neighbor, Gregory Faull, was found dead in his home under suspicious circumstances. Faull was shot in the back of the head and found face-up, in a pool of his own blood. Apparently, the two men argued frequently over McAfee’s dogs, who were loud barkers and aggressive with strangers. Faull was found dead shortly after McAfee’s dogs were all poisoned and died. Talk about drama!

But the drama doesn’t stop there — a US District Court had ordered McAfee to pay $25 million in a wrongful death suit in regards to Faull. This order came down as McAfee relocated to Guatemala to escape the scrutiny of the authorities. Unsurprisingly, McAfee responded to the situation on Twitter.

If you read more of McAfee Twitter feed, you’ll discover a wealth of information about the man. Not only did he post videos bragging about not paying taxes and how he was going to run for president of the US from a boat, but he literally writes that he will NOT be paying taxes.

It is unclear how much McAfee owes in back taxes, but as he shared on Twitter, he did not pay anything for eight years. He also did not file taxes from 2014 to 2018! This is all while he was making millions through crypto-currency, which is something you can read more about here. With all this looming over his head, it is quite audacious of McAfee to try and hop an international flight. He is currently under arrest for tax evasion and the maximum sentence for each count is five years. Furthermore, each year that he has failed to file taxes at all holds a sentence of one year jail time. Sounds like he better get comfy.

While tax evasion is not the most heinous crime one can commit, I for one am glad he has been finally arrested and will be brought to court for his actions. It is only when the wealthy are finally held to the same standards as us normies will anything change. But we want to know what you think about McAfee’s arrest, so let us know in the comments. And from all of us at Trill!: stay safe, wash your hands, and pay your taxes.
