Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney teamed up to tackle a struggling Welsh football club and they’ve documented the whole experience for everyone to see, aptly naming it Welcome To Wrexham.

Wrexham, a small town in North Wales, was overcome with hope and support after it was announced two big-name celebrities would be taking over the town’s struggling football club, but the unlikely circumstances surrounding the pair’s purchase of the team. The Deadpool star joined forces with the It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia actor, investing £2 million to secure ownership of Wrexham FC.

Despite neither visiting the town before, they both took a leap of faith and now we’ve been granted a first look into the process as they reveal exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the most unexpected football career move this decade. Featuring their dreams and prospective goals, both literal and metaphorical, for the club, Welcome To Wrexham is set to highlight the pair’s attempts to turn the team around and have even said the Premier League is in sight. High hopes!

Due to be released next month on the 24th and 25th of August in the US and UK respectively, the documentary will stream on Disney+, enabling fans to see what went down after it was revealed the duo had entered the Welsh football scene in 2020. After publicly progressing further since the ownership takeover, we can expect to see the highs and lows of the pair’s leadership skills after they admitted to being very hands-on in their approach.

Despite little being revealed about what we might see on our screens, both Reynolds and McElhenney have been actively promoting the club on their social media, proving their allegiance to the club. After all, you can’t buy a club you don’t support! A quick glance on Instagram shows them each posting photos and videos of matches they’ve attended, so there will undoubtedly be similar footage expected from the documentary.

Despite the actors never starring alongside each other, their friendship origin story is a tale as old as time – Ryan slipped into Rob’s DMs. It must have been a successful message as it was Rob, in fact, who later asked Ryan to take part in the venture, and the rest is history! Who knows, we may even see the encounter unfold on screen…

To see what went down when Hollywood met Wrexham, tune in to Welcome To Wrexham on August 25th, available exclusively on Disney+.
