Following the renewed interest in modern-day boxing after the November 28th boxing match between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr, a new boxing match set for 2021 is blowing up headlines. The retired former boxing match champion, Floyd Mayweather, is scheduled for an exhibition against controversial Tik Tok user and Youtuber, Logan Paul. Floyd Mayweather announced the match, scheduled for February 2021, on his Instagram.
The event is currently planned to be streamed via pay-per-view for $69.99 USD. As for who will bother paying for that type of unlikely showdown? Who knows.
43 year old Floyd “Money” Mayweather retired in 2017 following his match with Connor Murphy (in his debut boxing match), which he won. He returned to the boxing scene and fought kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s Eve in 2018 which reportedly earned him $9 billion USD.
Mayweather is slated to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2021, with a 50-0 record and 27 knockouts under his belt.
Logan Paul, brother of Jake Paul, made his boxing debut in Novermber 2019 in a fight against Youtuber, KSI. Their six-round fight was promoted by Matchroom Boxing, and KSI won in a split decision. Jake Paul fought former NBA star, Nate Robinson, and actually won the fight.
Some users on Twitter have joked that Mayweather has issued this exhibition against Logan Paul in retaliation against Nate Robinson’s loss.
If we thought 2020 couldn’t get worse, 2021 is shaping up to be just as unpredictable!
