The documentary, entitled You’ve Been Trumped Too, follows the construction of Donald Trump’s luxury golf course near Aberdeen, Scotland and the damaging effects it had on the lives of the locals. The documentary focuses on the narrative of Molly Forbes, a 96-year-old widow and her interactions with Trump after his construction team destroyed a water pipe, thus cutting off the water supply to the homes of those in her town.
Director and filmmaker Anthony Baxter has struggled to bring this story to light. In the midst of his investigations, Baxter was arrested and put in jail. Footage of his arrest, as well as the struggles that the Forbes family faced during these times appeared in Baxter’s first documentary on the subject, You’ve Been Trumped, which was broadcast on BBC2 in 2012. Charges were eventually dropped and the police issued an apology, but Baxter continued his project.
After the completion of this film, Trump’s people threatened to take action against any cinema the showed the film, thus sparking the four year legal battle surrounding the film’s release. Baxter later went on the write an article for the Guardian about how Trump attempted to suppress the release of the film, including interviews with both Trump and his son, Donald Jr..
