Under the tracks at Grand Central Terminal has been harbouring a secret the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has revealed.
The investigators stated that tree workers napped, watched TV and drank in the ‘man cave’ under the tracks. The room had previously been used as a locksmith’s shop underneath Track 114 in the station.
The MTA’s watchdog claimed that the man cave was lavishly furnished, with a futon, flat-screen TV, microwave and even a fridge to keep the men comfortable.
Carolyn Pokorny, the MTA Inspector General has joked that “Many a New Yorker has fantasised about kicking back with a cold beer in a prime piece of Manhattan real estate – especially one this close to good transportation.” Though the irreverence was quickly abandoned when she then stated that “few would have the chutzpah to commandeer” the room at the “riders’ expense” whilst utilising “MTA resources.”
The three men have since denied their role in the creation and sustained use of the room, though they have left their fingerprints and even a hotspot registered to one of them behind on the TV.
The men have been suspended without pay and could potentially be made redundant due to this inappropriate use of resources.
