The 2024 NFL Draft has come and gone. The weekend-long event was full of notable moments that these incoming rookies will remember for a lifetime.
The first round was full of these memorable moments. The unsurprising first pick, Caleb Williams, left nobody shocked. Even Williams couldn’t act surprised.
Following this were some high point and low points of the NFL Draft. Here are five of these moments that stood out most.
Detroit’s Reaction to Terrion Arnold
The 24th pick of the NFL Draft could’ve been heard across the state of Michigan. As Detroit was the host city, the event was full of Detroit Lions fans.
When the Dallas Cowboy traded their pick to the Lions, the place erupted in cheers.
When the pick was announced as Terrion Arnold, Alabama Cornerback, the cheers grew even louder. Arnold is considered one of the best cornerbacks in the 2024 class. Here is a video of the draft party’s reaction to the pick.
Packers’ Fan Disappointment
Following the successful Lions’ pick, the Green Bay Packers were up next. They selected Jordan Morgan, a tackle from Arizona.
Morgan was predicted in several mock drafts as a promising first round pick. Many analysts and football personalities called it a good pick. However, this fan’s face says it all.
Sketch’s Pick
“What’s up, brother?” has taken the internet by storm. The phrase was popularized by Sketch, a twitch video game streamer. He announced the round 4 pick for the Houston Texans.
Sketch, whose real name is Kylie Cox, has always coined himself as an avid Texan’s fan, so the special guest announcement only made sense.
Another McCaffrey in the League
Everyone knows Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers. He helped lead his team to the NFC Championship this past season and played a hard-fought battle this past Super Bowl.
Something that came to a surprise to many was that he has a little brother. Luke McCaffrey, a wide receiver from Rice, was selected in the third round by the Washington Commanders.
Additionally, the brothers’ father, Ed McCaffrey, played in the NFL for the Denver Broncos. The McCaffreys add to the list of brothers in the NFL.
Kansas City Chiefs Add to Their Speedy Roster
Finally, the reigning Super Bowl champions made a very smart trade in the first round to secure Xavier Worthy in the 28th pick. Moving up to the 28th pick via a deal with the Buffalo Bills allowed them to add to the notably fast lineup of wide receivers.
Worthy comes from Texas, where he earned himself three All-Big 12 Honors. He also holds the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine with a time of 4.21 seconds. This addition to the Chiefs further stacks them up for another potential Super Bowl championship in the 2025 season.
Setting up for an Exciting 24-25 Season
Overall, the 2024 NFL Draft roster was stacked with promising prospects. Highs and lows aside, I feel I can speak for all football fans when I say I’m excited for football’s return next fall.
