This solar farm in China can power up to 500,000 houses with clean energy and it’s shaped like a panda. I bet your carbon footprint is feeling a little embarrassed.
The Datong Panda project was launched in the north-eastern town of Datong, Shanxi province, by Panda Green Energy UN Development Programme. The nod to China’s national animal is composed of roughly 1,500 acres worth of black and grey panels and has a power capacity of 50 megawatts.
But this Panda isn’t tackling environmental issues on it’s own. This solar station is hoping to also serve as an education center to teach children the importance of sustainable energy. The best part? The youth activity center will be open to the public so everyone can learn how to be eco-friendly.
When the panda reaches the stage of 100 megawatts it is projected that over 25 years it will be saving 1.056 million tons of coal and reducing carbon emissions by 2.74 million tons.
