You may hear a lot about Greece’s financial crisis and debts over the last decade, however, Greece is actually doing some pretty cool things that you don’t often read about.

Evidently, Greece is now one of the bigger role models in protecting the environment. Specifically on the little island of Tilos, they’re proving to be a significant influence in the fight for green energy. Tilos is the first island in the Mediterranean to run solely on renewable energies, and currently running completely on wind and solar power. Mind you, it isn’t a very large island. It’s population is only around 500 people and it’s mostly a nature preserve, but this is still a large, influential step for the world and the constant fight against the use of fossil fuels.

Fossil fuels are some of the biggest culprits when it comes to damaging our planet and it’s ability to safely host life. More communities should be pushing harder in the direction of renewable energy. Adversely, it is an expensive and difficult switch to endure, but Greece is one of the more indebted countries. So, if they can do it, we can do it. In the long run, this is the health and future of our home in discussion here. We need to protect our planet in order to protect ourselves. Following in Tilos’ footsteps is one of the best ways to do so.
