The cosiest season is upon us. It’s getting colder, the leaves are turning colour. Here’s your in-the-know of what to wear and how to be this fall’s IT girl. Channel your inner Serena Van der Woodsen, or cosy up like Rory Gilmore!

As the seasons change, so do our wardrobes, and not just for practicality reasons. Like previous autumns, colour schemes have changed from bright summer hues to more earthy tones such as browns, beiges and mossy greens. However, according to Vogue, pops of red are definitely in.

Red expresses confidence, power and energy. Adding red to your outfit definitely shakes off the autumnal cold, and makes your outfit eye catching. You could go for a bold statement red top, or a smaller red accessory. This a very easy and affordable start to your autumnal wardrobe.

Another staple for this year’s fall is jackets. Not only do you keep yourself warm, but they also make you look super chic. A long jacket can really bring an outfit together.

Blazers

Suede blazers especially have made their mark as a fall staple, especially this year, The colours of suede jackets and blazers have are such an autumnal vibe. Cosy, but also classic. Wear these with your favourite blue jeans, a white top, some accessories, and you are good to go.

Trench coats

Another jacket that gets increasingly more popular each fall is a long trench coat. These stylish coats are perfect for roaming around markets or pumpkin picking. Usually, they have deep pockets, which are great so you don’t have to take a bag if you are running a short errand.

Paired with a scarf, this simple coat can look really good. Nowadays, trench coats are usually beige, which fits with the autumnal colour scheme. You can complement this with some blacks, blues and greys underneath, which can give it an elegant feel.

Sweaters

Another fall staple is a cute cardigan or sweater. These are perfect for walks to class, trips to the library, cute coffee dates… you must have a few in your autumn wardrobe!

There are so many types of sweaters; it’s hard to choose what to go for! Do you go for a rustic ‘grandpa’ type sweater, or an argyle sweater and channel your inner Rachel Berry?

Luckily for you, both are trending this season.

Cardigans

It isn’t just sweaters that are making a comeback. Since her global hit single back in 2020, Taylor Swift has  made cardigans popular with Gen Z. Furthermore, diver Tom Daley went viral for knitting a cardigan at the Olympics. They are no longer just pieces of school uniforms. Black cardigans are a perfect accessory to an going out outfit, cashmere is perfect for a trip to the theatre. A cardigan is definitely a must have this fall.

Boots

Another way you can be this season’s it girl is by wearing some boots to make your outfits stylish. Boots can really take your outfit to the next level. This fall, black and brown boots are in, due to their timeless look.

In terms of what type of boot to go for, it seems that the classic style is out, and more fun styles are in. These include slouchy boots, which silhouette gives a more relaxed feel to your outfit. These boots are all the range this autumn. British Vogue even says “If we had to pick one leading trend that will define autumn dressing it would have to be slouchy boots.”

Croc style boots are also making an impact this fall. Featured in many department stores, these boots are classic. Styled with reds, whites and greys, this type of boot is sure to make a statement at your local farmers’ market.

Hairstyles this fall

It isn’t just your clothing that can make you look like the coolest pumpkin in the patch this fall.

Bobs

This autumn, change up your hair do with a bob of your choice! Bobs are very in this fall. It’s a way of adding character to your look which directly contrasts the drab grey skies of fall.

One bob that is particularly popular is a swing bob. Shorter at the back, longer at the front, this timeless hairstyle is making a comeback this season. It makes your hair look thicker, whilst also keeping it easy to maintain, especially in large gusts of winds!

If bobs aren’t for you, perhaps a shag look might suit you better. A shag is an intentionally choppy style, seen on iconic stars such as Stevie Nicks. This hairstyle can complement a classy outfit. It definitely can bring out your personality!

If you are thinking of dying your hair, go for it! Autumn is all about change. In the fall, opt for some richer tones to give your hair the wow factor. British Vogue has identified hues such as apricot blonde and smoky brunette, as well as honey highlights as some great fall features.

Accessories!

Of course, you can’t talk about fall fashion and not mention accessories! The accessories are what finishes the outfits. What brings it all together.

Newsboy hats are becoming super popular. Many are deep earthly tones, which is perfect for fall. If you pair it with a cute scarf you get a perfect autumnal vibe in your outfit.

Simple elegant necklaces are also not to be missed this fall. Having a couple of dainty necklaces are always good to have, but they definitely make a big impact to your outfit!

Handbags and clutch bags are in this season, especially burgundy/wine red ones.

And, to my surprise, it seems animal prints such as leopard and zebra are popular patterns on belts. Ties have also made an statement this fall.
