Sleeping With The Fishes: Australian Hotel With Underwater Rooms Opens

You can sleep with the fishes…in a good way!

A new month has begun and we are weeks away from summer actually beginning, by solstice calendar. With summer plans looking to be a lot different this year, vacations are not looking like a real possibility. As tough as that is, its part of the continued sacrifice in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. With that said, let’s dive into a underwater pontoon boat hotel in Australia.

According to a source at theguardian.com, the experience of staying in one of the underwater suites on board the pontoon boat is an “intimate experience that will stay with you forever” (theguardian.com 1). A stay in one of the underwater rooms will set you back $799 a night however (theguardian.com 1). A little steep but with views of the Great Barrier Reef and all of the fish and other sea life right outside your window, its definitely worth the price tag. The pontoon boat does offer other accommodations for sleeping: top deck inflatable beds with netting to protect you but will not hamper your views.

You can also go out onto the boat for the day and scuba dive, swim, and boat ride around the reef for further exploring. There is also a chef with elegantly prepared meals. How fun does this sound? The reef in the area was severely damaged by Cyclone Debbie in 2017, along with the pontoon boat and much of the reef itself. Reefsuites, who own the boat and helped to restore it and protect the reef, are hoping that this will continue to be a profitable experience.

How cool does that look? This pontoon boat will not be the only one though. A new one is being built and will sit in the area of Lady Musgrave Island in Queensland (theguardian.com 2). There are also other underwater hotels in “Dubai, the Maldives, and Tanzania” (the guardian.com 2). This would be so cool to be able to go stay on a boat and be able to see the fish and the reef right from your window! It would be constant entertainment. Though we can’t book our flights and reservations for this now, its another spot to add to our list! Keep staying safe everyone.
