Icelandic Lagoon With Swim Up Bar Set to Open

Hands up who wants to visit this place when everything reopens.

Although now may not be the perfect time to go on a vacation, that doesn’t mean that you can’t start planning for your next one.  And in Iceland, a new tourist destination is set to open in 2021.

Iceland is known for its refreshing landscapes and for its hot springs and geothermal pools.  These pools are kept naturally warm by heat rising from the earth’s crust.  While some geothermal pools are too hot to swim in, Iceland has a few well-known spots for taking a dip.

Sky Lagoon is one such hot spring where swimming is encouraged.  Located oceanside just outside of Reykjavik, Sky Lagoon is described as being “about that Icelandic feeling of warmth and wonder”.  However, Sky Lagoon is not set to open until Spring 2021.  With coronavirus still a danger in most areas, this could be perfect timing.  The attractions and hospitality company that took on Sky Lagoon, Pursuit, has only just released their plans for the area. Dagny Petursdottir, the General Manager of Sky Lagoon, has claimed that,

[The lagoon] will enable guests to connect with mind, body, and spirit through the radiant powers of geothermal waters while taking in such impressive ocean views.

One of Sky Lagoon’s most exciting features is its swim-up bar.  Apart from being able to enjoy swimming and ocean views, guests can enjoy a cocktail without actually getting out of the water.  And, the guest experience is punctuated by details of Icelandic culture.  The surrounding buildings are modelled after Icelandic turf houses.  Because of its location, you may even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights, or you can watch the sunset.
