Harry Potter Fans Can Now Stay in a Gryffindor-Themed English Cottage

Are you a Harry Potter fan tormented by the ethical dilemma of whether to cancel JK Rowling and everything she’s created or to just unfollow her on Twitter? Well, now you can mull it over in the same place Harry himself would: the Gryffindor common room! Or, more precisely, in a red-velvet adorned cottage replica of the Gryffindor common room.

In the midst of a global pandemic, the world needs more whimsy. At least that’s what the owners of North Shire, a family farm offering “magical accommodations” in the English countryside, believe. They’ve just added the Harry Potter homage and it’s already a hit.

The free-standing cottage entitled, “The Dorm Room,” features stained glass and a grand fireplace. Thick velvet curtains separate six four-poster beds. It includes a fully equipped kitchen and an opulent bathroom.  North Shire’s website says the cottage was “designed to replicate the castle turret dorm room at a magical school that one particular boy wizard went to”

Harry Potter isn’t the only magical movie experience the 6-acre family farm offers. If you’re a fan of The Hobbit, check out the adorable Shire House. Or a two-story cottage called Le Petit Chateau, which offers a more luxurious experience. That one features an upstairs room designed as a “nod to all things magical.” However, if you’re only interested in all things Potter, there’s also a Groundskeeper’s Cottage, fit for the half-giant Hagrid.

The farm also offers weddings, so geeks everywhere can convene on the North York Moors and get married in full wizard regalia, then hold their receptions in the cottages. The farm provides catering hook-ups, and there is even an “enchanted barn” that a zealous team of bridesmaids could decorate to look like The Great Hall.

I can’t promise the ceiling will replicate the night sky, but you can always use the magical power of imagination.
