“Next time you take a screenshot or screen recording, the person who posted the story will be able to see it.”
This is the pop-up message seen by selected Instagram users in the past week.
Instagram Stories, a feature lovingly stolen from Snapchat, is beginning to introduce some of Snapchat’s own privacy settings.
WABetaInfo reports this feature is still in development, but some people are already receiving screenshot notifications.
The Next Web reports that only some of their staff were able to see who screen-grabbed their Stories. Others couldn’t use the feature yet. Instagram is doing a test drive it seems.
There are apparently three ways to trick Instagram so that it doesn’t register a screenshot.
- Switch your device to ‘flight mode.’
- Download Story posts from Instagram’s website instead of their app.
- Use Story Reposter (Apple) or StorySaver (Android).
These tricks may only work for a limited time. Snapchat has already put up safeguards to stop such methods from working.
Of course, Instagram’s new privacy feature might be a good thing. We all have videos that we definitely do not want to be around forever.
It’s not all bad news for stalkers though: Check out Instagram’s new ‘Show Activity Status’ feature.
