Who thought a cartoon could cause so much trouble?

Jim Carrey has been a little quiet on the film front for a while and it seems that he has been filling his time by tweeting politically driven cartoons to satisfy his creative needs. However, as might have been expected, he has ruffled a few feathers and most recently has annoyed none other than Mussolini’s Granddaughter.

Alessandra Mussolini, who is the Granddaughter of fascist Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, took particular offence to Jim Carrey’s recent depiction of her Grandfather and his partner Clara Petacci hanging upside, which is seemingly a replication of their bodies being hung upside down in Milan to confirm their deaths in 1945. See for yourself below:

For reference, here is the real thing:

Mussolini, for those of you who aren’t fully aware of him, essentially declared himself Prime Minister of Italy by marching 30,000 of his fascist supporters through Rome in 1922. He was responsible for over 400,000 deathes in World War Two and another 30,000 during the Italian invasion of Ethiopia.

Mussolini promoted himself through the media as a hero and a legend, however behind this propaganda he was a ruthless and merciless ruler who was responsible for many deaths. So clearly, you can see why the Hollywood A-Lister may have an issue with him.

Despite all of what we know about Mussolini, Alessandra was not happy about Carrey’s creation and was very vocal in responding to him and others who decided to whey in. Enjoy:

As you can see, a range of tweets directed at the Actor. Alessandra’s angle here may be that there are many nations that have sketchy pasts and that have oppressed people.

Probably the best part of this incident is Jim Carrey’s fans who arrived to fiercely defend him. And not only this, but Alessandra replied to many of these in questionable fashion:

Safe to say she wasn’t happy. However she must be well accustomed with this sort of argument having Benito Mussolini as a Grandfather!

Speaking of dictators, are you thinking about who to vote for in the next Presidential Election? We’ve got you covered.
