Vice President of Design Matthew Ashton stubled upon the idea to create a set for his own desk.

Unilad details Ashton ‘wanted to make the space feel like home with something that reflected me and the LGBTQIA+ community I’m so proud to be a part of’.

What started as a personal project got the attention of various members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Soon, the demand for the set made commercial production possible, and the company decided to push for a product that celebrates diversity and inclusion.

Ashton also added:

“Growing up as an LGBTQ+ kid – being told what I should play with, how I should walk, how I should talk, what I should wear – the message I always got was that somehow I was ‘wrong’.

Trying to be someone I wasn’t was exhausting. I wish, as a kid, I had looked at the world and thought, ‘This is going to be OK, there’s a place for me.’ I wish I’d seen an inclusive statement that said ‘everyone is awesome’”.

The designer hopes that this project demonstrates a commitment to showing acceptance and empathy to everyone regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

Many are already showing the product some love in the video’s comment section.

One user tweeted, “LOVE THIS! Thank you LEGO!” following the comment with hearts and another added, “So awesome”.
