Shake Shack Reveal Their Secret Cheese Sauce Recipe So You Can Now Make it at Home

Slather your quarantine in cheesy goodness.

NYC-based Shake Shack has finally shared the recipe for their famous cheese sauce—and you can make it in only 30 minutes.

In the first installment of Shake Shake at your Shack, the fast casual chain’s new cook-along social media series, culinary director Mark Rosati teaches foodies how to whip up this, “huge fan favorite” #AtYourShack. The video features easy, step-by-step directions to make the classic sauce, which the company claims fans will want to drizzle on everything.

Recipe:

2 cups of American cheese
2 cups of cheddar cheese
1 tbsp of canola oil
1 tbsp of white wine vinegar
6 thin slices of jalapeño
3/4 cups of sliced onion
1/2 tbsp of salt
2 tsp of peppercorns
2 cups of heavy cream
2 tbsp of white wine

Pro Tip: Add gravy to make “disco style” sauce!

Though the chain currently boasts locations in 31 states and 15 countries, it all started with a hot dog cart in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park. From 2001-2003, the spot gained a loyal following, and the first permanent location opened the following year. Along with their classic flat-top dogs and fries (best served with cheese, of course), the Shack menu offers items like burgers, chicken sandwiches, frozen custard, and even dog treats.

While many might not be able to venture out to a Shake Shack location during quarantine, nationwide food shipment company Goldbelly is offering DIY Shackburger meal kits that can be delivered right to your front door. The kit includes 8 100% Angus beef patties, 8 non-GMO potato rolls, 8 slices of American cheese, and 4 oz. of custom ShackSauce. Add on your own lettuce, tomato, butter, salt & pepper, along with a heaping spoonful of homemade cheese sauce, and treat your quarantine crew to an authentic Shack experience.
